Spark plugs deliver electric current from ignition systems to combustion chambers. A spark-ignition engine ignites a compressed air-fuel mixture through an electric spark. Ordinary spark plugs have metal threaded shells. A porcelain insulator isolates them from the central electrode. A heavy-duty insulated wire connects the resistor to the ignition coil. It is screwed to the cylinder head to ground it electrically. At times, the spark plug measures the level of ionization in a cylinder head.
